Austral Fisheries Pty Ltd (“Austral”) is owned by Kailis Fisheries Holdings Pty Ltd (“Kailis Fisheries”) and Pescanova S.A (“Pescanova”)
The company was incorporated in 1981. Since incorporation it has been directly involved in fish and prawn catching with activities extending to remote, offshore and high seas waters.
Kailis Fisheries
Kailis Fisheries was founded by the late Theo Kailis and is still owned by his family who continue an involvement in the fishing industry in Australia that extends over four generations. Over this time they have been pioneers of the Australian fishing industry and have recognised the long term benefits of sustainability.
Having been in the industry for such a long time, they understand the importance of Austral formalising it’s commitment to sustainability.
Pescanova
Pescanova was founded in 1960 at the port of Vigo, on the northwest coast of Spain. In Spain, it is currently one of the major publicly listed companies and the largest fishing company with vertical integration and global activity. Company shares were first publicly traded on the stock exchange in 1985.
Senior management of Pescanova is in it’s third generation from the founder Jose Fernandez Lopez.
Pescanova has a presence in 21 countries, a fishing fleet of 120 ships with approx. 4000 employees. Pescanova has been a shareholder of Austral since 1982.
