Austral Fisheries Cape Arkona Build Milestone

Austral Fisheries commissioned Båtbygg AS Raudeberg, Norway in 2018 to complete the construction of a SK-4260 fishing vessel designed by Skipskompetanse.

Austral Fisheries are now pleased to announce a significant milestone in the hull construction phase of this vessel, Cape Arkona, which underwent a controlled launch at the Remontowa Shipyard today.

This milestone follows 15 months of construction of the hull undertaken by Marine Project Gdansk, Poland on behalf of Båtbygg AS.

To date, the build has seen the successful construction of the hull, as well as installation of some of themain equipment such as the rudder, propeller shaft, gearbox, generators, main engines, refrigeration compressors and other major equipment. The internalpaintwork is 90% complete whilst the external paint will be applied when the deck equipment installation is finalised at Baatbygg.

The vessel uniquely combines auto-line, potting and trawling and will set new standards for multi-purpose fishing operations.

The hybrid vessel has four different propulsion options which will allow it to adapt its power output to match the operational requirements, reducing the environmental footprint and maintenance costs. The Cape Arkona is also equipped with the latest in electric trawling winches and battery technology, making use of the regenerative power and peak shaving to further reduce fuel consumption and increase operational safety. “The system allows us to convert potential lost brake power to be used in recharging the Battery Bank, assisting in reducing fuel usage,” explains Austral Fisheries’ General Manager – Southern Fleet, Peter Stevens.

The next phase of the Cape Arkona’s build is the fit-out and installation of equipment, with completion of the vessel currently projected for May 2020.
