Austral Fisheries MSC Certified Sustainable Seafood
At Austral Fisheries, we believe in sustainable seafood, and this comes from taking care of our fisheries that we operate in so that they remain healthy and viable for future generations. That is why we have actively sort out what we believe to be the gold standard in independent fishery certification, the Marine Stewardship Council, and put our fisheries up to the test.
As of 2012, all four of our Australian fisheries that we operate in have been certified by the MSC as sustainable and well managed fisheries. These are:
- Heard Island and McDonald Island Mackerel Icefish Fishery (certified as sustainable March 2006. Re-certified June 2011 and July 2016).
- Heard Island and McDonald Island Patagonian Toothfish Fishery (certified as sustainable March 2012. Re-certified July 2017).
- Macquarie Island Patagonian Toothfish Fishery (certified as sustainable May 2012).
- Northern Prawn Fishery (certified as sustainable November 2012).
